Technically, a processor is a complex assembly of digital circuitry used to process data. And this belongs to any processor in the world. Although any processor would handle and operate-on data, there are many different types and kinds of processors. This is because the data being processor is of various forms and may require to be processed in certain manner.
Depending on the environment in which a processor is used, there are following types of processors:

The processor can be viewed as integration of two things : a data path and a control unit.
A processor is creation of digital electronics that has changed the world. The modern electronics gadgets we use these days, are all built around some kind of processor. The processor can be discussed from two perspectives viz. design of processor and use of processor. This blog would elaborate the design of a processor up-to a certain level. The design of any processor however does depend on where it is to be used. Processor can be roughly categorized into two parts. One part consists of those which are useful for study purpose, while the other consists those used in commercial products i.e. in some real world application. To describe a commercial processor is a big deal! Many books are being written to almost completely describe one. This blog will describe a processor known as MU0 (which is of first kind i.e. non-commercial) from design point-of-view. |
